SAVE students awarded Creighton University Grit Scholarship!
TWO of our amazing SAVE students, Nissi from Duchesne Academy and Lochobe from Creighton Prep, have been awarded the prestigious Creighton University Grit Scholarship! We are so unbelievably proud of these students for all of their hard work, dedication, and focus that allowed them to accomplish this award. Nissi and Lochobe both attended All Saints Catholic School and have been a part of SAVE since their elementary years. Nissi plans to study biology and Lochobe plans to study finance at Creighton University!
What is the Grit Scholarship?
This scholarship was created by the Charles and Mary Heider Family Foundation to assist students who are graduates of Creighton Prep, Duchesne Academy, or Mercy High School in Omaha, Nebraska.
What do you have to say about the hard work & dedication it took to receive this scholarship?
Nissi: Studying & getting good grades while staying engaged in clubs & sports was essential!
Lochobe: Work hard and you’ll be surprised what you can accomplish in the future.
While SAVE is only a small part of your success, how did we support you to achieve this goal?
Nissi: SAVE provided me with the tools I needed for my future-readiness.
Lochobe: SAVE has helped me stay on top of my grades during my studies and encouraged me to continue pushing through each semester.
At SAVE, we serve students from third through twelfth grade. One of our favorite parts of this long-term program is being able to witness & support our students through the college admissions process. Our students can utilize our partnerships with local colleges to connect with admissions teams and scholarship opportunities, all while relying on our team of facilitators who meet with students every two weeks for academic support, goal setting, and mentorship. We all win when our students succeed, and as we celebrate this HUGE accomplishment by Nissi and Lochobe, we are reminded of the unlimited potential each and every one of our students has.

This story would not be complete without mentioning our long-term partnership with the Creighton Intercultural Center (CIC) and Coach Len Gordy. Full circle moments like this make us realize just how impactful this partnership is. As elementary schoolers, Nissi & Lochobe attended many SAVE sessions at Creighton University hosted by CIC. They toured campus, received mentorship from Creighton students, and learned about all things college. Now, years later, they have the opportunity to attend Creighton University. Thank YOU for investing in local youth, from elementary school to college.
We can’t help but think about all of the elementary schoolers who attend SAVE sessions at Creighton University currently. What seeds are being planted and what will grow? We can’t wait to find out.
