Martha’s Success Story
Mercy Catholic High School has a success story in Martha, a senior who has proven to be an outstanding example of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. Martha, who is a part of our Follow Through Program, has recently received a $70,000 scholarship to attend St. Louis University next year. This is just one of multiple scholarships she has been awarded this year. This is a testament to her academic achievements and her unwavering commitment to personal growth and education.
The Follow Through Program is a continuation of our Academic Mentoring Program and is specifically designed to provide ongoing support to students throughout their middle and high school years. The program offers academic and emotional assistance, as well as financial support for extracurricular activities and other necessities that may help them thrive. Over this academic year, the program has proven to be a vital part of schools’ community by helping numerous students achieve their academic goals.
In an interview with Martha, she shared that the Follow Through Program provided her with essential support, anything from keeping her on track in her classes to providing school supplies she needed throughout the year. When asked what advice she would give to younger students who are considering joining the Follow Through Program, she replied with “Make sure you turn in your application as soon as you can! The Follow Through Program helps alot with anything you may need during the year. Mr. Diran also makes sure that you are on track with your classes and grades.”
Martha was accepted into 12 different universities including St. Louis University where she was awarded the Catholic School Award Scholarship and the Belikin Award Scholarship. She credited Mercy High School for preparing her for college, providing opportunities and resources to succeed, and sending out lists of scholarships and financial aid that she qualified for. We asked her what advice she would give to other high school students looking to apply for college, “Stay dedicated. It can be an intimidating process to go through but as long as you stay on track and meet the deadline you will be okay. Sometimes when you are looking for the right college, the cost can be alarming. Try to look past the cost of that school because there is plenty of financial aid out there to apply for, really look at the school that will best suit you as a person and student. If you are involved in outside organizations, even church, ask if they have any financial help that they are able to provide you, you might be surprised by what there is.”
She encouraged other students to pursue their passions, surround themselves with supportive people, and never give up on their dreams.
Martha’s success story is a testament to the transformative power of education and the importance of providing students with the necessary resources and support to thrive. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors and are confident that she will continue to make a positive impact wherever she goes.
